Agency Introduces 6-Hour Workday, Includes Hourly Meetings to Celebrate It

By Mad Team on September 11, 2025

In a pioneering move destined to revolutionise precisely nothing, Auckland-based creative agency BarkWink announced today that it will trial a 6-hour workday—buffered by hourly meetings, snack strategy syncs, and five-minute TikTok-algorithm check-ins.

“We believe in work-life balance,” said BarkWink’s Head of People, Jace Witherspoon, while hoarding six Slack channels under the project codename "Operation Napkin." “Our team should have more time to explore passion projects, like staring into the void while wondering what their job title means.”

The initiative will feature a strictly enforced daily schedule that includes a 45-minute 'Standing Thoughts Circle' at noon, where team members are encouraged to share feelings about fonts, office fridge etiquette, and the emotional impact of Helvetica Neue.

Staffers will also rotate responsibility for the Cultural Vibe Board, a physical corkboard in the communal kitchen where team members can post affirmations, unsolicited playlist links, and printed-out memes from 2014. Results will be measured using BarkWink’s proprietary metric, ROI (Return On Intuition), which is described in internal documents as 'best guessed by Cheryl from Accounts'.

The company has already received expressions of interest from four startups, two yoga instructors, and one guy who sells hard kombucha at the Matakana Markets. Trials begin Monday, or whenever Morwenna updates the Google Calendar.
