Local Creative Agency Wins Bronze Pencil for PowerPoint Animation Transition

Auckland-based agency Sword & Scone has proudly announced its historic win at the Regional Pencil Lunge—a lesser-known offshoot of the prestigious D&AD Awards—for their groundbreaking use of the ‘Vortex’ slide transition in a recent pitch deck for a mid-tier chutney brand.

The 64-page presentation, created overnight and fuelled by six flat whites, a panic attack, and someone's leftover Pita Pit, featured seamless Cambria-to-Comic Sans stylings, a case study with a scrolling parallax effect, and what judges described as "a brave, almost legally actionable use of gradients." The pièce de résistance? A dramatic slide zoom-in that took 12 seconds and audibly startled one client’s dog during the Zoom call.

"Honestly, just happy someone noticed," said Sword & Scone's Creative Director, Jamie Tuckwell, whose name appears six times in the page notes due to copy-pasting errors. "I always say, if the idea lacks substance, lean into kinetic typography and blind confidence."

The Bronze Pencil—rendered in MDF and spray-painted by a local theatre prop builder—is expected to be mounted next to the agency’s 2014 ‘Highly Commended’ in the Hamilton Chicken Wing Festival activation category. When asked what’s next, Sword & Scone hinted at an upcoming TikTok campaign for a brand of gluten-free crayons. “We’ve already written the mood board. In Latin.”
