Wellington Agency Introduces Emotional Support Seagull to Boost Creative Output

In a bold step towards redefining workplace wellness, creative agency Spindle & Moxie has this week unveiled Trevor, a live seagull billed as the agency’s first ever Chief Emotional Support Officer. The launch comes after a two-month trial in which Trevor reportedly reduced deadline-related weeping by 18% and helped one junior copywriter rediscover his sense of irony.

According to agency insiders, the move was inspired by a heated Slack thread about 'morale' that spiralled into a spontaneous pitchfest. While some proposed ping-pong tables shaped like David Ogilvy, the winning idea was apparently scrawled on the back of a reusable sushi container. “People don’t need more cold brew. They need a bird,” said Head of Culture, Zadie Rimmer, who also has two cats with full access to the agency’s Figma boards.

Trevor, who arrived via ferry from the Picton docks, spends his days circling the ideation pit and regularly interrupts meetings with haunting cries of approval or existential dismay. Staff say his erratic behaviour keeps brainstorms fresh and egos deflated. “You’re halfway through your fourth metaphor for ethical shampoo and then boom, Trevor steals your sandwich. It’s very grounding,” said Account Director, Reuben S., who’s asked to remain last-name anonymous since the bird also follows him home.

The agency claims their seagull approach is already catching on, with two rival firms attempting to lure Trevor with gourmet fries and a branded beanbag. In response, Spindle & Moxie have confirmed Trevor now comes with an NDA and his own keycard. It only works between 10am and 3pm, coinciding with the agency’s new policy of ‘productivity windows’, colloquially known as the seagull hours.
